Moodboard

CD Cover

Jamie Scott & the town- Park bench theories

The reason we have chosen this CD cover is bacause of the image. The image is the artist sat on a park bench, this relates to the idea we have for part of our music video, which involves both a famale and male sat on a park bench whilst lip syncing. We like this CD cover as it is simple and contains one image. The font is bold and simple containing the artist name and album name. The colours used within are plain, as the image is mostly green with the trees and the brown bench.

Digipaks

A digipak is a patented style of compact CD or DVD cover. Digipaks consist of a paperboard or card stock outer binding. digipak packaging is typically used for CD singles or special additions of CD albums.

Although less vulnerable to cracking than a jewel case, the disc tray inside the package (particularly the "teeth" of the hub which secure the disc in place) remains rather brittle and is prone to cracking if the package is crushed. Digipak-style cases grew in popularity among record labels and recording artists in the early 2000s.

Official Music Video "The XX - Heart Skipped A Beat"

This is the official music video for the track that we are choosing to pitch for. However we do not intend to take any of the idea's that this video has used. This video is not performance based and the narrative included is relatively week.
The video also includes a range of colour filters that have been used over the top of the different landscape shots, this gives the video an abstract feel.
The video begins and ends with the shots being framed by an X. This is to meet the demands of the record label. Instead of close ups or shots of the artist, displaying part of the artists name is used to advertise them.
There does not appear to be any relationship between the lyrics and visuals, as the concept of the song is the break between two people but the shots in the video are of landscapes and do not include any main characters. There are a couple of shots of lone people standing and of animals running over the land, you could argue however the that this shows the loneliness and isolation that the artist is portraying through the lyrics.

The Next Untouchable

This video was produced by a past A2 media group. It shows the kind of comic strip visuals that we would aim to reproduce. However we did not particularly like the captions used in this video and so we will not include them. We would aim to use this split screen to illustrate the break between the artists.

Truth Or Dare developed ideas

Narrative:

A guy chasing a girl, trying to get her back after cheating. Music video involves shots of cars as is a driving song. This relates to Goodwin's point of music relating to visuals. Also the idea of part of the video containing narrative and parts containing performance.

Style:
Rocky style. Dark costume colours, jeans, leather.

Locations: Coffee shop, Bedroom, road (driving)

Meeting demands of record label: Lots of close ups of the artist when performing and drividng in the car.

Genre characteristics: Performance from the artist and band playing

Visuals compliment lyrics as artist acts out these lyrics, eg argueing when lyrics state:every single arguements endless.

Lyrics along with ideas:

Was it easy all along? (driving in car, close up of artist looking in mirror)

As the days went on and on, (wide shot of car showing time passing)

Going through the motions,

Holding on to better years (looking through photos of the both of them 'better years')

But now all you'll hear from me

Is a familiar melody,

From the wires to the speakers (wires in car going to ears)

To your tired ears

So truth or dare, let me hear it (performance of artist)

Say you'll stay like you mean it (girl talking on phone to artist)

Or don't let go 'til it feels like

Nothing's changed and nothing's wrong

With the things you tried to take

That I need to stay awake, (coffee shop drinking coffee)

That I need to trade

The action for the old routine

So truth or dare, let me hear it

Say you'll stay like you mean it (shot of artist and girl being intimate)

Or don't let go 'til it feels like

Nothing's changed and nothing's wrong

'Cause day by day she's a little

Closer still to the middle,

So kiss and kill me a little (girl kissing artist, close up of both faces)

More and more until you're gone

'Cause every single minute

I'm drowning out there

And every single argument's endless (arguement between artist and girl)

And I know ever indiscretion

Is breaking your heart

And every bad decision

Every bad decision is defenseless

So truth or dare, let me hear it (chorus, performance from artist)

Say you'll stay like you mean it

Or don't let go 'til it feels like

Nothing's changed and nothing's wrong

Cause day by day she's a little (artist and girl together)

Closer still to the middle,

So kiss and kill me a little

More and more until you're gone (artist driving in car)

Visual styles:

I have had a look at some music videos and have taken screen shots of parts of the video which relate to the ideas:

Chris daughtry -No surprise image of artist driving in car, dark colours are used to compliment rock genre.

Nickelback- How you remind me image artist performing to camera and audience, the band are alseo shown in a dark room on a stage.

- Close ups of artist
- Intertextuality with story/fairytale

» Narrative

Female artist has chosen to break up with her boyfreind and then regrets it. The music video is all about the artist trying to get her boyfreind back.

» Rough Idea Along With Lyrics

Do you lie awake
In the morning
- Artist looking out of window (Introduces Artist)
Trying to find
A reason to call me
- Phone displaying "no missed calls"
'Cause honey
All that I've been doing
Is thinking about your smile
- Closes inbox and photo of smiling man on screensaver
But none of this is necessary
With me baby
You see baby
- Shot of artists performance
'Cause I like to
Keep it all simple
- Shot of man from behind, being followed by camera (point of view shot)
'Cause you are my
Satellite
- Looking up into sky wondering. (high angle shot, non-direct gaze)
So I'm trying to
Keep you in sight
- Shot of female and male in black and white/sepia together (to show past memories)
But with all this space
Can we keep it alive
Keep it alive
- Woman standing alone in busy street singing while people walk past.
So I'm asking you baby
Are you coming down tonight
- Close up on artist's face
There's something
In the air tonight
- Walking down the street whilst singing.
That feels right
But you're keeping me
Guessing and I'm
Finding it hard to
Catch your eye
- Following the man, who gets lost in a crowd in busy town.
So move a little closer
It's all right
I know
What you're thinking
You've been circling me
For a while
- Circling camera around artist

'Cause you are my
Satellite
So I'm trying to
Keep you in sight
But with all this space
Can we keep it alive
Keep it alive
So I'm asking you baby
Are you coming down tonight
- Artist and man meet and make up
'Cause you are my
Satellite
So I'm trying to
Keep you in sight
But with all this space
Can we keep it alive
Keep it alive
So I'm asking you baby
Are you coming down tonight

Heart Skipped A Beat - Continued ideas

Visual Style

Normal colour at start after what happened between them is shown fades to desaturated colours and slight grain to go with mood of song. Fade back to normal colour at end if its happy.

Comic book stylie idea

0.00 - 0.08: Comic/Album cover shown with name of band and song to meet the demands of the record label. Inside is shown Comic book style camera zooms in on one section of page. Album style camera zooms in on CD with still of video.

0.08 - 0.25: Sped up video of Female singer (F) catching male singer (M) with another girl doing something out of bounds of GF/BF rules...whatever that maybe. Speed slows down as F's reaction is shown.

Transition: Whole shot moves up as 2 new videos come in to shot from below.

0.25 - 0.39: M's Shown In left/right video singing while going about his daily doings. Close ups for record label. In the other side F does the same but without lip sync.

0.39 - 0.54: The opposite of /\ is done.

0.54 - 1.10: Possibly different locations shown with 1 person appearing then dissapearing and the other appearing to say "sometimes I still need you". Representing them realizing their need for each other equally in different locations. Last location continues from there either following one person back home or splitting screen in 2 showing 2 videos.

1.10 - 1.45: More fast video showing them living separately from each other and slowing to normal speed at key points. Key point for instance could be one person watching TV finding something funny then looking to where there is no one. Then a close up of their expression showing their realization they have no one to look to, to experience the moment with.

1.45 - 2.01: Close up of phone screen F ringing M no lip sync just flawless mobile phone miming.

2.01 - 2.17: M shown on phone then putting it down with slight smile/look of hope for relation ship.

2.17 - 2.33: M shown getting ready to go out.

Transition: As soon as 2.33 is hit M's Screen moves left F's Screen joins it lip sync begins with both while they both head towards their own doors 2:38 "reach" both reach out to their door handle and open door. Match on action camera picks them up outside.

2.38- : Lip sync stops Shows them on journey to meet each other after so many of same verse camera stops following one from high angle on bridge looks down on F when F and M meet F's video drops out of scene... If its a bad end they walk away in seperate directions as one walks under the bridge 2 videos come up again so their is a person always in shot as it videos coming up would be matched to the head disappearing. Good ending that doesn't happen.

Suitable camera work: circling around them when they are together.

Other notes: Showing them on their journey to meet each other and showing them at home is representing their journey through they are on in there relationship.

Ending possibilities
Speech bubbles or text could be used to emphasize lyrics.

Sped up film idea from The start of green wing where it is used to quickly show you the whole of the previous show and slows on to normal speed on important points.

Lyrics:

Please don't say we're done
When I'm not finished
I could give you so much
Make you feel, like never before
Welcome, they said welcome to the floor

It's been a while
And you've found someone better
But I've been waiting too long to give this up
The more I see, I understand
But sometimes, I still need you

Sometimes, I still need you

I was struggling to get in
Left waiting outside your door
I was sure
You'd give me more

No need to come to me
When I can make it all the way to you
You made it clear
You weren't near
Near enough for me

Heart skipped a beat
And when I caught it you were out of reach
But I'm sure, I'm sure
You've heard if before
